Knicks’ Karl-Anthony Towns reveals stone-cold mindset despite taking 2-0 lead on Cavs

The New York Knicks have to be feeling very giddy after taking a 2-0 lead in their Eastern Conference Finals clash against the Cleveland Cavaliers. On Thursday night, the Knicks won in rather convincing fashion once more, as they outplayed the Cavs in the second half en route to a 109-93 victory. And as things stand, it sure does look as though New York is on its way to the NBA Finals, with Cleveland’s spirit possibly being broken after those two defeats.

Nonetheless, it is never easy for any NBA team to close out the series. The Knicks may be in an advantageous position, but a seven-game series is never over until a team wins four games. And this Cavs team has shown so much resiliency so far in this year’s playoffs; after all, this team did come back from a 2-0 deficit in the previous round against the 60-win Detroit Pistons.

Karl-Anthony Towns, in his postgame presser, is refusing to get ahead of himself, as he remains locked in and implored the Knicks to continue being laser focused even after going up 2-0 in the ECF against the Cavs.

“We don’t feel any closer than we did last game or any game… We got to win the next game, it’s the most important game of the year… You can never be satisfied in these situations,” Towns said, via SNY’s Knicks Videos on X (formerly Twitter).

Indeed, the Knicks will be heading to the road against a Cavs team that’s been a different team at home than when they’re away from the friendly confines of Rocket Center. Cleveland is expected to play with the level of desperation that comes with facing the prospect of being down 3-0 — a playoff deficit that no NBA team has ever come back from.

Still, the Knicks have been an incredible road team in this year’s playoffs, and as long as they don’t become complacent, they should be in a good spot moving forward.
