Knicks’ Karl-Anthony Towns reveals reason for snubbing Devil Wears Prada 2 premiere

While his recent cameo in The Devil Wears Prada 2 was a lot of fun, New York Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns was unable to attend the movie’s premiere.

However, he had a good reason to snub the festivities. The Devil Wears Prada 2 held its world premiere on Apr. 20, 2026, in New York City. While KAT plays in the Big Apple, the Knicks had a game that night against the Atlanta Hawks in their playoff series, which they lost.

Speaking to reporters, Towns revealed that he was invited to the premiere, but, as he put it, “I had work.” If not for the game, perhaps he would’ve gone.

In The Devil Wears Prada 2, Towns makes a brief cameo as himself. He is one of the guests invited to Miranda Priestly’s (Meryl Streep) property in the Hamptons.

Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) is starstruck by the various celebrities at the weekend event, ranging from Rory McIlroy to Jon Batiste. Hathaway is a Knicks fan in real life, and her character compliments KAT, “It was a great series. It was a thrill to be a New Yorker.”

It’s not specified what series she is referring to. Either way, this blurred the lines between fact and fiction, given Hathaway’s real fandom of Towns and the Knicks.

David Frankel, the director of The Devil Wears Prada 2, said Towns was a “big fan” of The Devil Wears Prada. In turn, he was “thrilled” to be part of the sequel. He explained that Towns was someone Miranda would want in her circle of friends since she seeks out people who are “the best at what they do.”

“I think Miranda’s world on weekends is filled with cool, interesting people. Anybody who’s the best at what they do, she wants to have for lunch,” Frankel explained of KAT’s cameo. “That’s how we sought out KAT.”
