Knicks’ Karl-Anthony Towns drops perfect message for his dad, Rick Brunson ahead of Father’s Day

Arguably, there has not been another player who flipped the narrative on himself quite like Karl-Anthony Towns. For years, he was tagged with negative labels, but after helping the New York Knicks win the championship, he has finally silenced the naysayers, including his fellow players.

In an emotional message, Towns thanked his late mother, Jacqueline Cruz-Towns, for guiding him throughout his journey. Cruz-Towns passed away in 2020 due to complications from COVID-19.

While KAT is a self-confessed mama’s boy, he is also close with his father, Karl Towns Sr., who was his first coach growing up in New Jersey. The elder Towns was beaming with pride after his son and the Knicks won the title in Game 5.

He even posed for a picture with Jalen Brunson’s father, Rick Brunson, with both of them holding the Larry O’Brien Trophy.

Jimmy Fallon showed it on his late-night show on Monday, with Towns, Brunson, and coach Mike Brown as his guests. Fallon reminded them that it is Father’s Day this weekend, eliciting a perfect remark from KAT.

They sure did.

The Knicks ended their 53-year title drought after beating the San Antonio Spurs in five games, highlighted by their historic 29-point comeback in Game 4 and their gutsy performance in crunch time in Game 5.

Towns had a strong start to the series but tapered off in the last three games. Still, he was very instrumental against the Spurs, averaging 13.0 points, 10.6 rebounds, 1.4 steals, and 1.0 blocks, while also making life difficult for Victor Wembanyama.

It certainly was a memorable run for KAT. More importantly, he shared it with his father.
