Knicks’ Jalen Brunson gets honest about ‘unacceptable’ flaw ahead of Game 3
The only way to stop Jalen Brunson from showing up for the New York Knicks in Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden on Monday is to tie him to a chair, feed him to a blue whale, tie that blue whale to a giant rock, and plunge it in the Pacific Ocean.
The Knicks, who are up 2-0 in the best-of-seven series, will host a game in the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999, and Brunson is eager to soak in everything and get the home crowd rocking and rolling.
New York is on a 13-game winning streak. The 29-year-old Brunson, however, has struggled from the field against the Spurs. He only shot 7-of-25 in Game 2, although he sank the game-winning free throw with only 10 seconds left.
The three-time All-Star said they should avoid putting themselves in precarious situations by taking better care of the lead. They almost blew a 14-point advantage in the fourth quarter in Game 2.
“The way they (Spurs) fought back and took the lead is a credit to who they are. Us staying composed helped us win the game,” said Brunson in the media conference.
“But we do need to finish the game better. It was unacceptable, the way we just let that 14-point lead go the way we did.”
The Spurs took a two-point lead, 104-102, with 57 seconds remaining after Victor Wembanyama’s and-one play. Brunson, however, quickly responded with a jumpshot before sinking his crucial free throw following Wembanyama’s critical turnover.
San Antonio also grabbed the lead with two minutes left in Game 1 before New York went on an 11-0 run, led by Brunson.
Brunson is averaging 25.0 points on 33.9% shooting, including 23.5% from beyond the arc, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.5 steals in the NBA Finals.
