Knicks fans still chant ‘f*** Trae Young’ despite midseason trade during Hawks clash

Despite his trade at the deadline to the Washington Wizards, Trae Young still heard his name amidst chants in the Atlanta Hawks’ Game 1 of their best-of-7 series against the New York Knicks. Brunson closed out the Hawks to win in a 113-102 victory, and take a 1-0 lead in the opening-round series after Knicks fans’ chant at Madison Square Garden.

Knicks fans’ chant broke out toward the end of the fourth quarter, and could be heard clearly through the TV broadcast, per SM Highlights’ X, formerly Twitter.

Trae Young, who played for the Hawks his entire career before his trade to the Wizards, caught a stray as Brunson and the Knicks put the finishing touches on an 11-point win against the Hawks.

Knicks All-Star Jalen Brunson scored 19 first-quarter points en route to a game-high 28 points against the Hawks, for which he was commended for by Knicks head coach Mike Brown. After the win, Brunson reflected on his quick start in the opening frame against the Hawks.

“Got off to a good start in the first quarter. The ball was going in. Had a little bit of rhythm,” Brunson said. “Obviously, within games, things can go up and down. Just found a way to stay composed and still try to impact the game, and I feel like I did that enough for us to win tonight.”

Brunson finished 9-for-22 from the floor, including 3-for-4 from deep. He also added seven assists, five rebounds, and one block.
