Knicks fans erupt with disrespectful Joel Embiid chant in Game 1

If there is one thing about Joel Embiid, it is that he knows how to get under the skin of opposing teams and their fanbases, and one of those fanbases is the New York Knicks. The Madison Square Garden crowd is notoriously difficult on the stars of opposing teams, and they are making no exception for Embiid, who just lifted the Philadelphia 76ers to a 3-1 comeback over the Boston Celtics. The Knicks and 76ers kicked off their second-round matchup on Monday night.

MSG wasted no time in trying to get under the skin of Embiid on Monday, as they started an NSFW chant before the opening tipoff.

Embiid missed the first three games of the Celtics series, but was an immediate force when he re-entered the lineup. The 76ers lost Embiid’s first game back, but then rallied to win three consecutive games, stunning their rivals and advancing to play the Knicks. Embiid showed he is still capable of being a superstar through all the injuries, averaging 28 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists.

The Knicks are full of confidence after their dominant Game 6 win over the Atlanta Hawks in their first-round matchup. They were also victorious over the 76ers in the first round of the 2024 playoffs.

Embiid took over that series, averaging 33 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 5.7 assists, but New York neutralized the rest of the team to win the series in six games. It was a close series in terms of average margin of victory, but the Knicks believe they can have the same fate in this series.
