Kendrick Perkins blasts Rockets as most selfish team in playoffs

The sky is falling and the world is ending for the Houston Rockets, or so it seems. The 2026 NBA playoffs have been nothing but a disaster thus far for the Houston Rockets, as they have fallen behind 3-0 in their first-round matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers, which is a death sentence for one’s season, as no team in NBA history has ever overcome such a deficit.

Now, the Rockets’ season isn’t officially over quite yet. As long as there are games to be played, there is still hope after all. Houston could very well sow some anxiety into the Lakers’ minds by stealing Game 4 and extending the series. But their outlook is looking bleak, and Kendrick Perkins rubbed even more salt into their open wounds by putting them on blast in the Perk Unplugged podcast.

“They are the dumbest team in the damn postseason. They are the most selfish team in the postseason. They are a team that plays agenda basketball. You want to play agenda free basketball,” Perkins said.

“When you talk about champions. And you talk about guys that make legit runs and championships and all this, you know how you develop trust? Trust just ain’t developed in between the lines, trust is developed outside the lines.”

There are no concrete indicators pointing to the Rockets playing selfish basketball, but they surely have looked rattled and outmatched against a shorthanded Lakers squad through three games.

Game 3 was looking like a turning point, but they faltered when it mattered the most. Perhaps “dumb” would fit as a better description, as fouling a three-point shooter and then turning the ball over in the backcourt on consecutive possessions during winning time is not what a smart and composed team would have done.

Whatever the case may be, the Rockets have to do some deep soul-searching if they were to beat the odds and somehow become the first team in NBA history to complete a 3-0 comeback.
