Karl-Anthony Towns pinpoints what doomed Knicks in Game 3
Karl-Anthony Towns was not interested in blaming the officials following the New York Knicks’ 115-111 loss to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 3 of the 2026 NBA Finals on Monday night. Instead, the Knicks star pointed directly to his team’s execution after New York saw its 13-game playoff winning streak come to an end at Madison Square Garden on Monday night.
SNY Knicks took to its X, formerly Twitter, sharing Towns’ response when asked about frustrations surrounding the officiating after the loss. Rather than focusing on whistles, Towns spoke about the turnovers and mistakes that prevented New York from taking a commanding 3-0 lead in the series.
“That ain’t cost us the game. We turned the ball over. Didn’t execute, didn’t do what got us 13 straight wins in a row.”

The comments from the former No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft reflected a team-first mindset following New York’s first loss of the 2026 NBA Finals. New York entered Game 3 riding a 13-game winning streak and appeared positioned to take complete control of the NBA Finals before San Antonio responded with its best performance of the series.
Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs with a phenomenal two-way effort, finishing with 32 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and three blocks. Stephon Castle added 23 points, five rebounds, and five assists, including a crucial three-pointer late in the fourth quarter, while De’Aaron Fox delivered key baskets down the stretch.
Despite the loss, Towns remained focused on factors within the Knicks’ control. The veteran forward, who finished with 11 points, eight rebounds, and three steals, pointed to New York’s execution against a desperate Spurs team trying to avoid a 3-0 series deficit.
