Kanye West banned from entering UK, Wireless Festival cancelled
Ye’s planned return to London unraveled fast, and in dramatic fashion. The rapper, formerly known as Kanye West, said he wants to bring “unity, peace and love” through music, but U.K. officials blocked his travel request before that comeback could happen, USAToday reports. Multiple outlets reported that the Home Office rejected his entry on the grounds that his presence would not be “conducive to the public good,” a decision that came just months before he was slated to headline all three days of Wireless Festival in July.
That ruling did more than derail Ye’s travel plans. It also forced Wireless Festival to pull the plug on the entire event, with organizers confirming that ticket holders will receive refunds. The cancellation marked a stunning reversal after the festival had announced in late March that Ye would lead the bill for all three nights in London, what would have been his first U.K. performance since 2015.
Ye responds as fallout grows
In a statement shared through festival representatives and reported by several outlets, Ye said his goal was to come to London and show change through action, not just words. He also said he would welcome the chance to meet with members of the Jewish community in the U.K. and listen in person. That response arrived as criticism kept building, with the Campaign Against Antisemitism backing the Home Office’s move and festival organizers acknowledging the personal harm tied to antisemitism.
