Juventus eye shock move for Premier League striker with three goals this season

Juventus have made an enquiry over Everton striker Beto, talkSPORT understands.

However the Toffees are reluctant to let the 28-year-old leave in this transfer window.

The Old Lady have made bringing in a new centre-forward a top priority before the window slams shut on Monday.

Luciano Spalletti’s side had looked at signing Crystal Palce’s Jean-Philippe Mateta having held talks with his representaives.

Juve were keen on thrashing out a loan deal with the option or obligation to buy at the end of the season.

But they refused to match the Eagles’ £35million valuation of the France international.

Don’t Bet on it

This has led to Juventus to turn to Beto, who has been on Everton’s books since joining for £25.8m from Udinese.

Though the move seems unlikely with the Merseyside outfit unwilling to sell the player so late in the window without an adequate replacement in place.

Beto is just one of two senior strikers in Everton’s squad alongside Thierno Barry.

As has been the case in each of his three seasons so far in England, goals have been hard to come by for the Portuguese-born Guinea-Bissau international.

His first two seasons yielded five and ten goals respectively in all competitions – scoring three and eight times in the Premier League.

And this campaign he is on four strikes, with three of those coming in the top-flight.

His most recent strike came in Sunday’s 1-1 away draw at Brighton where he poked home in the seventh minute of stoppage time to steal a point for the visitors.

Beto’s goal had Everton boss David Moyes hoping this would kickstart his season after commenting on the player’s struggles.

He told talkSPORT after the draw: “I’m really pleased for Beto because I say it and it’d be hard to tell you how good he is as a worker.

“He’s doing everything to try and turn his form around. And he lives off goals. He wants to score.

“And once you get a goal, sometimes it can just change your fortune a little bit. This time last year when I first came into the club, he went on a brilliant run of goals for me.

“I hope that maybe that one’s going to give him a little bit of feeling that he can do it again.”

Beto is yet to reach double digits for goals in the Premier League from his three years in England so far

With Beto looking set to stay at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, he could soon be joined by a new attacker.

talkSPORT understands that the club will push hard to bring Chelsea winger Tyrique George to the club.
