Jordin Canada’s ‘under the weather’ revelation after double-double vs. Fever

The Atlanta Dream were able to defeat the Indiana Fever, 113-96, making it the second time in a row they’ve beaten them. In this game, both teams were close in the first half, but it was the Dream who came out in the second half and took control. All five starters finished the game with double-digit scoring, but it was one player in particular who helped the engine flow throughout the game.

Jordin Canada finished the game with just 12 points, but it was her 12 assists that were crucial for the team’s success. After the game, Canada revealed how she was able to contribute, also sharing that she was doing it after not feeling well over the week.

“My job is to make sure that I’m getting everybody involved in knowing that I’m just gonna let the game come to me,” Canada said. “The last few days I’ve been playing under the weather, not really feeling great, and I knew coming into the game that I had to just be sharp defensively, and then just make sure my teammates were getting involved and just allow the game to come to me.”

Not only did Canada compete on the offensive end, but it was her defense that helped the Dream turn things around in the second half. Whether she was matched up on Caitlin Clark or Kelsey Mitchell, she tried her best to make it hard on her opponent, and it led to three steals.

“I just tried to use my quickness to my advantage and understanding the tendencies of who I’m guarding, knowing that Caitlin Clark wants to go right, knowing that Kelsey Mitchell wants to go left, and just staying solid on defense, and picking and choosing my moments when I can either strike or find opportunities to steal the ball,” Canada said.

Canada is a veteran guard in the league, so she knows what she needs to do in order to help the team, whether that’s scoring or getting others involved. It’s something that she says has evolved in her game over the years with experience.

“I think it’s just something that I’ve learned in my experience over time being in this league, playing with different teams, having different roles. different teammates,” Canada said on finding the balance between playmaking and scoring. “This season, knowing that I need to be a little bit more aggressive offensively, but also knowing I have so many teammates that score and get buckets.

“Just seeing where I can find opportunities for myself and where I can find opportunities for my teammates. I love passing the ball. I love dishing to my teammates and watching them shine. So I think that’s just my mindset of how to find that balance, and that’s just experience over time.”
