Jaylen Brown addresses $50,000 fine for Joel Embiid comments

Undoubtedly, the seven-game first-round series between the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers got chippy. Certainly, that was the case between Jaylen Brown and Joel Embiid. Brown accused Embiid of flopping throughout the series, in which the 76ers won.

Afterward, Brown was labeled as a “sore loser”. Then, he was hit with a $50,000 fine for going after the officiating. He accused the officials of conspiring against him, committed numerous offensive fouls, and called for an investigation into several officials.

On Wednesday, Brown shared his thoughts on the fine on his Twitch page. If anything, he is expecting it for what it is and looking to enjoy the offseason.

Brown was fined $35,000 in January for criticizing the officiating in a 100-95 Celtics loss to the San Antonio Spurs. Overall, he complained that the Celtics had four free throw attempts,, whereas the Spurs had 20.

“Ask, and you shall receive … Something had to be said,’ he said per Celtics on CLNS at the time. “As a team, we get to the free-throw line the least in the league. Just protecting my guys and myself.”

Nevertheless, he capped off a strong individual season. He averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game. Brown made it to his fifth NBA All-Star Game in February.

Also, he remains a top contender for the NBA MVP Award, with the heavy favorites being Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nikola Jokić.

In Game 7 against Boston, Embiid led the way with 34 points as the 76ers won 109-100. They currently trail the New York Knicks 1-0 in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. They play Game 2 at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday.
