Jay Glazer opens up about ‘proud’ relationship with Aldon Smith after passing

Following the passing of former San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith, Fox NFL Kickoff reporter Jay Glazer penned a heartfelt letter about their relationship. Glazer took to his X account following the news of Smith’s passing to speak about the work they undertook to get Smith back into the league.

Following a lengthy absence from the NFL, Smith worked closely with Glazer through Unbreakable Performance and the Merging Vets and Players (MVP) program. The relationship helped Smith navigate personal challenges and eventually return to professional football, culminating in his 2020 comeback season with the Dallas Cowboys.

“Absolutely gutted. Beyond gutted to hear the news of the passing of my dude Aldon Smith. Can’t believe it. Mannn, just gutting,” Glazer wrote.

He then detailed the journey the two undertook to get him back on the field with the Dallas Cowboys.

“I was so damn proud of the journey he and I took together to get him back into the league after being out of the NFL for 4 years. But also the journey we took in being real and vulnerable to try to be better in this crazy game of life. I was proud of what we learned from each other and the brotherhood bond we formed. Proud that after 4 years out he showed that anything is possible.

Glazer added, “I will never forget the day when he came over to my house to sign his contract with the Cowboys so we can be proud together. But even cooler, he wanted to sign it in front of my son Sammy so he would be proud too as he had a front row seat to it all. Soooo proud, through the ups and downs, still so proud! And I always will be. This one definitely hurts. RIP my brother.
