Jamal Crawford’s son receives an offer from an HBCU
The son of NBA on NBC analyst and former NBA standout Jamal Crawford has received a scholarship offer from an HBCU. JJ Crawford recently announced that he received a scholarship offer from North Carolina Central, led by LeVelle Moton.
“Thanks to Coach Moton and the NC Central staff for offering me,” JJ Crawford said in a post on his X account on March 30th.
LeVelle Moton is notorious for being aggressive in his recruiting pitches, even being one of the first colleges to offer a scholarship to Bronny James, current Los Angeles Lakers guard and son of LeBron James. In comments secured by Andscape (formerly known as The Undefeated) in 2020, Moton explained why he offered the young Bronny James a scholarship despite the backlash he received at the time.
“Let me break it down for you a little bit here, and this is just how I look at it,’’ Moton said to Andscape. “In the year 2020, we have people that will get uptight because a black coach offered a black kid the opportunity and the means to attend a black college. A black coach offered an opportunity to play basketball at a black school – and he will be criticized by black people.”
JJ Crawford is right in line with that same thought process for Moton. Crawford has played under Jamal in the Nike EYBL for the Northwest Rotary Rebels. He received an invite to the USA Men’s Junior National Team minicamp as one of the seven prospects from the class of 2029 to receive the recognition.
