Jamahl Mosley issues lengthy statement after being fired by Magic

The Orlando Magic made the decision to fire Jamahl Mosley a day after they were eliminated from the first round of the playoffs by the Detroit Pistons. After being up 3-1 in the series, the Magic failed to close out the No. 1-seeded team, which also included blowing a 24-point lead in Game 6.

After the firing, Mosley wrote a lengthy statement, thanking the organization and fans for supporting him through his time as the head coach.

“It has been an incredible five-plus years, and this organization and city will always mean so much to me and my family. In my heart, I truly hope that during our time here we were able to impact the players, staff, and the Magic organization in a meaningful and lasting way,” Mosley wrote. “I want to sincerely thank the DeVos family for the extraordinary opportunity to serve as head coach of the Orlando Magic. To our fans, there is nothing but love in my heart.

“The joy I had coaching this team, in this city, for the people who live here is something I will never forget. All I ever wanted was to make you proud to be Magic fans, and my journey here will certainly stay with me forever.”

It was a rough season for the Magic, especially toward the end of the season, when they went on a losing streak and fell out of the top six in the Eastern Conference. Injuries also hurt them, as Franz Wagner missed significant time, as well as some time in the first round.

The Magic were able to make the playoffs the past two seasons but have been eliminated in the first round of the playoffs both times.

It will now be interesting to see what candidates the Magic will have to replace Mosley, and if they will make any major changes to the roster.
