Is Kawhi Leonard playing tonight? Clippers vs. Warriors injury report
The regular season is over, and the LA Clippers are officially set to take on the Golden State Warriors in the 9-10 play-in game on Wednesday night. The Clippers finished the regular season with a 42-40 record, winning their final game of the season against the Warriors, setting up the play-in showdown.
Seven-time NBA All-Star Kawhi Leonard did not play in the Clippers’ regular season finale against the Warriors due to an ankle injury, ending his streak of 11 consecutive games played.
After missing the final game three days ago, it’s fair to wonder: will Kawhi will play tonight against the Warriors?
Here’s everything we know about Kawhi Leonard’s injury status for tonight’s game vs. the Warriors.
Kawhi Leonard’s injury status vs. Warriors
Kawhi Leonard was not been listed on the injury report over the final few games of the regular season as the Clippers were in desperation mode to win as many games as possible down the stretch. Leonard has, however, been dealing with a sprained ankle and another wrist issue over the final few weeks of the regular season. The Clippers star played 11 straight games before missing the team’s regular season finale against the Warriors.
Ahead of the game, the LA Clippers have announced their injury report, and Kawhi Leonard is not listed on it. The franchise has historically been cautious history with the two-time NBA Finals MVP, but in a win-or-go-home situation like Wednesday night, there wasn’t going to be anything that would hold Leonard back from playing in it.
The Clippers had been hopeful to keep their spot as the eighth seed in the Western Conference, but the team lost two critical games against the Portland Trail Blazers, in addition to bad losses against the Sacramento Kings and New Orleans Pelicans (twice).
Leonard has been healthy this season, playing in 65 of the Clippers’ 82 games and finishing as eligible for end-of-season NBA awards. Leonard’s biggest absence came early in the season, when he missed 10 games due to a severe right ankle sprain back in November against the Miami Heat.
Kawhi Leonard also finished the regular season by scoring 20+ points in 57 consecutive games, tying Bob McAdoo for the longest streak in franchise history, and placing him solely behind Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for the second-longest active streak in the NBA.
“It’s great, even if it’s just a pickup game or anything,” Leonard told members of the media about facing the Warriors at Clippers practice. “To be able to share the floor with a player like that, you know being coached by Steve Kerr, also playing with Draymond, that unit over there has championship pedigree. It’s a great opportunity. You can’t take it for granted. You gotta squeeze as much as you can out of this season.”
In 65 games this season, Kawhi Leonard averaged 27.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.9 steals per game on 50.5 percent shooting from the field and 38.7 percent from three in 32.1 minutes a night.
Leonard set career highs in scoring in his 14th season, the only player in NBA history to do so in his 14th season or later, while also having a career-high in three-point volume.
The Clippers finished the regular season with a 42-40 record, turning their season around and going 36-19 since starting the season 6-21.
