Is Donovan Mitchell playing tonight? Cavs vs. Hawks injury report

The Cleveland Cavaliers host the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday night in what is the first of a double-header between the two teams. Currently perched at No. 4 and 5 respectively in the Eastern Conference, the two teams may also face each in the first round of the playoffs.

Regardless, the Cavs arrive to this one after a hat-trick of wins, most recently producing a 142-point performance against the Memphis Grizzlies in the absence of Donovan Mitchell. The guard last played in the win against the Indiana Pacers, where he recorded 38 points but sprained his right ankle.

That injury has led to him being listed as questionable on the official injury list for the first matchup against Atlanta. Mitchell sits alongside Dean Wade and Jaylon Tyson with the same status, with Thomas Bryant the only player confirmed to be out due to injury. The Hawks are healthier and have listed only Jock Landale on the injury list.

Donovan Mitchell enters this game as a legitimate game-time decision. The Cavaliers can still rise up to No. 3 in the table although the focus will be their main man’s health.

Mitchell has been the engine of Cleveland’s success this season. The Cavaliers sit at 50-29 and have surged into the No. 4 seed powered by their backcourt of Mitchell and James Harden.

Spida produced a 42-point performance in his last outing against Atlanta earlier this season and is going at 27.8 points per game overall, his second-best ever. Regardless, the Hawks may not be looking to rise up in the rankings.

However, they still have multiple teams in close pursuit, led by the Toronto Raptors. They also hold the season advantage over the Philadelphia 76ers and will be confident of their chances.

Atlanta have won four of their last five games but come into this one after a 108-105 loss against the New York Knicks. Nickeil Alexander-Walker returned with 36 points off 12-19 shooting while Jalen Johnson had a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds.
