IPL 2026: Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Lucknow Super Giants, Match 10 - Who Said What?

The Lucknow Super Giants beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad by five wickets in Match 10 of the 2026 Indian Premier League, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. 

The first innings was one of two halves. The Lucknow Super Giants dominated the first 10 overs, as they had the Sunrisers reeling at 22/3 at the end of the powerplay. Mohammed Shami, in a brilliant spell of fast-bowling, dismissed both openers, finishing with match figures of 2/9 from his four overs.

Coming together at 26/4 in the eight over, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen put on a brilliant 116-run stand, setting the platform for their innings. The pair got to half-centuries, setting the platform for the innings, as SRH got to 156/9, despite losing wickets late in the innings as well. 

In response, the Lucknow Super Giants started their innings strongly, getting 53 off the powerplay. Markram got a brilliant 45, while Rishabh Pant, coming in at number 3, started slowly. Getting the odd boundary, he kept chipping away at the score, built on the platform set in the first six overs. Despite wickets falling at the other end, Pant held his own at the other end, taking Lucknow home with a ball to spare.

Talking points

1) Shami’s glorious resurgence 

One of the most skilled fast-bowlers India has produced, Mohammed Shami once again showed his class with an exceptional spell of 2/9 from his four overs. Bowling three overs upfront, he kept the SRH batters under check, with his accuracy in line and length. He dismissed the dangerous Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma with well-disguised slower-balls. This was a statement performance from Shami, who showed that the long injury layoff has not deterred him one bit.

2) Reddy, Klaasen step up 

The Sunrisers have been billed overly top-heavy, relying on the starts provided by their openers, with the middle order not doing much. But after the top order was cleaned up, it was Nitish Kumar Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen who came together to rescue the innings. The pair put on a solid 116-run partnership off just 63 balls, taking on the Lucknow bowlers, who were looking unplayable on the day. SRH will be banking on Klaasen and Reddy to continue this form, as a bankable option in games where the top order fails.

3) Pant gets runs, but not smoothly

Rishabh Pant would be relieved to get back in the runs, but he is yet to look his fluent best. He struggled hard to make his 68, taking 50. However, he ensured to stay till the end and take Lucknow over the line. At his best, he is a destructive batter, capable of changing gears at will. But he is yet to show that ability, and has looked a shadow of his former self. Being captain of the Lucknow Super Giants, his form with the bat will be a huge factor in Lucknow’s success this season.

"It was a good game, total not enough. Bowlers bowled to the plan, credit to the fielders too but one or two boundaries can take the match here and there. Losing four wickets early puts pressure on other batters, but credit to Klaasy [Klaasen] and Nitish for taking us past 150. Rishabh played well when they were losing wickets. Defending that total was tough, taking it to the last over gives us positive notes. Harsh bowled exceptionally well, hope he'll continue."

"It's a big plus, staying till the end and finishing the game. With bowlers, you have to appreciate them because they set up games. Shami, Avesh, Rathi all contributed. Siddharth too. We feel there's never a perfect match, have to critical as a management, but appreciate the effort and focus on execution. What ends well is all well, for me personally, I know I'm preparing well. I want to let my bat do the talking. My colleagues and management see how hard I work, that's what matters."

"I'm happy. We lost our lost game, winning this game was key to build momentum. If you want to play, it's important to be in touch with the game. If you're fit only then can you work on your skills. That's why I kept in touch with the game and played all the domestic games. Without skill or experience, nothing happens. But you have to adapt. I was here last year and used a lot of slower ones. Opponents use it a lot, I thought why not us too."
