Gujarat Titans secured a comfortable 77-run win over Rajasthan Royals in Match No. 52 of IPL 2026 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on May 9. GT posted a commanding total of 229/4 in their 20 overs. Sai Sudharsan continued his fine form with 55 off 36 balls, while skipper Shubman Gill led from the front with a brilliant 84 off just 44 deliveries. The opening pair added 118 runs in just 65 balls to lay the foundation for the massive total. For RR, Brijesh Sharma picked up two wickets and finished with figures of 2/47.

Chasing 230, RR struggled to keep up with the required rate and were eventually bowled out for 152 in 16.3 overs. Ravindra Jadeja was the top scorer for the hosts with 38 runs. For GT, Rashid Khan delivered a match-winning spell of 4/33, while Jason Holder provided excellent support with figures of 3/12. With this victory, GT moved up to second place in the IPL 2026 standings with 14 points from 11 matches, while RR dropped to fifth place with 12 points from 11 games.

Talking points:

Gill-Sudharsan set the tone in the 1st innings

Gujarat Titans openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan laid the perfect foundation with an aggressive opening stand. Both batters registered half-centuries and stitched together a 118-run partnership in just 65 balls, powering GT past the 200-run mark.

GT pacers apply early pressure

GT pacers Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj applied early pressure on the RR batting unit. Rabada removed Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shimron Hetmyer, while Siraj dismissed the dangerous Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to put GT firmly in control.

Rashid Khan rolls over the opposition

With the pitch offering assistance to the spinners, Rashid Khan made full use of the conditions and dismantled the RR middle order. The veteran leg-spinner returned with impressive figures of 4/33, dismissing Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja, Donovan Ferreira, and Shubham Dubey to help GT seal a dominant victory.

Who said what?

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rajasthan Royals (Losing Captain)

No,(How tough was it when GT got off to such a good start) I think we were just thinking to bowl in good areas and they were batting pretty well. So we were just thinking how we can cut down the boundaries or big shots. So I think it was pretty good from them. No, it’s cricket (talking about Archer being off the radar today). We all know that there’s some days where you are in, there’s some days where you cannot bowl how you want. But he’s been doing so well for us, I think. So I think he’ll be coming back very strongly. No, I actually didn’t think that much (whether leaving out Burger was a tough decision). I had simple plan who is my bowler and who can give me some good overs in the powerplay. So nothing much from my end. Nothing much (What went wrong tonight?). I think we are going to look what we can do better and just look for the next game, what we can do and learn from this game.

Shubman Gill, Gujarat Titans (Winning Captain)

Very happy, this was a clean win for us. We got 10-15 runs extra on the board. It wasn't easy against the spinners. We got 230 runs, we always knew we are going to have a good game after that powerplay. That's what we thought as well, just keep the bowlers under pressure. It wasn't easy against spinners. There were a few overs where we didn't get boundaries, but we covered it well in the last over. Taking wickets upfront gives our bowlers a chance to attack. That's the thought process, always keep attacking and keep taking wickets. Very happy. Our next game is at home. I twisted my ankle, but it settled a bit after half an hour.

Rashid Khan, Player of the Match

Quite happy. It was unusual for me last two seasons. This year I have been more consistent. So happy with that. I took only two months to get back on the field. I had to come back for Afghanistan and to play those games. I was missing my rhythm. I had a good Hundred competition. Just tried to hit the right areas in this match. That was the most important thing, hit the right length. I feel if I pitched it in the right areas, I would get wickets. It's so good, it's important to have players around you. They have played a lot in India, so they have good information. Modern cricket demands more variations. Sai Kishore is working on various skills.
