Insider reveals why Reuben Bain Jr. would be a ‘fantastic’ in Seahawks-style defense

The 2026 NFL Draft is just a few weeks away. NFL teams do not have much time to finish up their draft boards. One national analyst praised one defensive prospect as an ideal fit in one of the league’s most cutting edge defensive schemes.

ESPN’s Mina Kimes explained why Miami edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr. could be a fantastic fit in a Seahawks-style defense in 2026.

“We just saw a team win the Super Bowl in large part because of their ability to stop the run with light boxes out of a two-high structure,” Kimes said on Monday via NFL Live. “Rueben Bain Jr. is a complete edge. You talked about how he uses his size, his leverage, rushing the passer but [oh boy] he can play the run. The play strength, the agility, [he] plays multiple gaps. The disruptiveness, he gets in the backfield. And then the motor, chasing guys down into the flat from the backside. He runs super hot.”

Kimes praised Bain as a player who can do it all, but she noted that his upside is a legitimate question. It is possible that Bain’s lack of arm length could limit his ceiling in the NFL.

“If you’re drafting him, it comes with a comfort level knowing that you’re getting an every-down player who does have a high floor,” Kimes concluded. “I think the question is where is the ceiling? Is he going to be a double-digit sack guy? Will a lack of length maybe inhibit his numbers in that way? But I do think he can contribute immediately. And for a defense that wants to live like Seattle, he would be a fantastic pick.”

Bain will likely go off the board during the early parts of the first round. It will be exciting to see where he lands.
