Injury prone Arsenal star pleads with club to hand him new contract with talks yet to take place

Gabriel Jesus is desperate to extend his stay at Arsenal having endured lengthy injury spells in each of his four seasons at the club.

The 28-year-old has missed over 70 matches for the Gunners through injury since joining from Manchester City in 2022 for £45million.

He has never featured more than 27 times in the Premier League in a single season, and has only scored double digits in just one campaign.

Jesus has endured four separate knee knocks – three of which has required surgery.

An ACL blow suffered in January 2025 saw the Brazilian sidelined until December 11, where he featured off the bench against Club Brugge in the Champions League.

Now fully fit, the four-time Premier League winner has featured in 11 games in all competitions this term.

But as has been the case during his stay in north London, he has found goals hard to come by having found the back of the net just once.

And Jesus, who has scored just 27 times in 107 games for Arsenal, is desperate to repay their faith in him by guiding the club to a first league title in 22 years.

Tied down at the Emirates until 2027, Jesus has been limited to a bit-part role this term with Viktor Gyokeres leading the line following his big money move last summer.

Despite rumours the club will be looking to offload him at the end of the season, Jesus has pleaded with the club to hand him fresh terms.

Gift of the Gab

Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League clash at Inter Milan, he said: “This is my fourth season at Arsenal and unfortunately I played maybe one-and-a-half, two.

“Then the rest, with injuries, that happens, never happened with me before but it happened here, I don’t know why.

“I don’t ask myself anymore. I just try to be fit and then my first target is to be healthy from now until the end of the season.

“Like I said before, my wish is to stay at Arsenal. And then I have a contract as well.

“Obviously if you ask me, like you did already, I want to extend my contract.

“I want to stay and I want to win trophies with Arsenal because I came here with a purpose. Then that’s it. But obviously the reality is different.

“Sometimes it can go [another] way. But my focus is to stay healthy and then win trophies with Arsenal.”

Despite Jesus’ desire, he then revealed that as of yet, no contract talks have taken place.

When pressed whether there had been discussions over a new deal, Jesus simply stated: “No.”

Despite his lack of goals, some Gooners have been calling out for him to lead the line due to Gyokeres’ struggles.

But Jesus has backed the Sweden international to prove his doubters wrong.

He said: “He’s a top striker. He scored a lot of goals in his previous club. And then I’m sure that he’s going to find a way to do the same for us because this is good for us.

“He’s a striker who can score goals every time, at every minute. Then also Kai [Havertz] is an amazing player, amazing striker.

“I just find myself that I’m so happy that I come back. I had the toughest injury in my life, 11 months. And then just to come back the way I come back, I’m so glad.
