‘If I could go for Babar Azam again, that would be ideal’ - USA’s Jasdeep Singh sets bold target ahead of T20 World Cup 2026 [Exclusive]

In an exclusive interaction with CricTracker, USA pacer Jasdeep Singh spoke about his preparations for the high-profile clash against India in the T20 World Cup 2026. He revealed that he is keen to make an impact by targeting India’s top order and also expressed his desire to dismiss Pakistan skipper Babar Azam once again in the upcoming World Cup.

Jasdeep also opened up about his experience of representing MI New York and Washington Freedom in Major League Cricket (MLC). Reflecting on his journey, he shared insights into the guidance and support he received from Australia great Steve Smith and former Australian captain Ricky Ponting, describing their advice as a major confidence boost in his career.

How are you preparing yourself for the big game against India?

Yeah, I think it’s more about the mental aspect, you know, considering the scale we’re working at. It’s really about visualising myself at the Wankhede Stadium, picturing being there and already in that moment, and then just taking it day by day. I’m going to soak it all in and truly enjoy the experience.

You scalped the big wicket of Babar Azam in the T20 WC 2024. Whose wickets are you eyeing the most this year?

I think when you look at it, we were playing two of the main teams. They’re iconic sides, with both teams having a lot of iconic players, many of whom you idolise as well. I wouldn’t single out anyone in particular, but getting any of those top wickets and making an impact for the team would make me really happy. That said, if I could go for Babar again, that would be an ideal situation. At the same time, I’m really looking to run through the top order of India if I get the chance.

How does it feel to be the only player to have played for both Championship-winning teams, MI New York and Washington Freedom?

There’s a bit of a story to it, actually. From not getting picked to then being part of it, contributing, and being involved in championship teams, it’s obviously something to be grateful for. I try to give my 100 percent every time I step out there, but at the end of the day, it’s not just about me. We had some gun players in the team, and both teams had very strong players. That just makes everything a lot easier.

In 2024, Steve Smith said you have a bright future. How does it feel when a player like Smudge praises you? 

I mean, coming from him, it was obviously big for me, especially during a time when I was going through a low and hadn’t been picked. I was really looking forward to the opportunity, and I’m glad I was able to contribute. Praise coming from him, and from a coach like Ricky Ponting, means a lot. They both backed me during that phase, and it’s always a huge confidence boost. That’s the kind of feedback you really look forward to hearing from some of the greats.
