IBM announces new AI Enabled Digital Experiences for 90th Masters Tournament

The Masters is going to be even more incredible this year.

On Monday morning it was officially announced, after it was uncovered by people on the internet previously, that IBM has created some new digital experiences for fans around the most wonderful week of the year.

In case you were unaware, we are set to witness the 90th Masters Tournament and such an event calls for a spectacle of digital showcasing. IBM has taken care of that.

New this year for the Masters thanks to IBM:

  • The Masters Vault Search with watsonx
    • Fans can now search by shot throughout Final Rounds from the tournament’s history dating back to 1968
    • These searches can be yielded by conversation-style prompts thanks to a system of AI agents that are powered by specialized solutions, including IBM’s Granite small language models and agentic AI platform watsonx Orchestrate
    • You can literally be as specific as you want, like you were texting someone, about finding any shot from any Final Round you’d like
  • Newly enhanced ‘Hole Inisghts’
    • This is the third year of this feature
    • AI-powered Hole Insights provide fans more insights for greater accuracy around every single shot taken by every single player on every single hole during the Masters
    • The new feature combines on-course visuals with data-driven insights, such as historical scoring probabilities and contextual performance trends
    • This helps fans better understand how each shot, position, and decision can impact the overall outcome

IBM allowed one of their own in Kameryn Stanhouse to speak with SB Nation about these improvements ahead of this year’s playing of the Masters and more than anything I came away knowing that our favorite tournament means just as much to IBM as it does to us. In fact, I’d argue that, thanks to how Kameryn outlined the strategy and research that went into powering these features, IBM’s chief priority is ensuring that fans are able to have the best experience possible.

Something Kameryn said will stick with me for a long time, well after even this year’s tournament. She noted that there is “perfect” in terms of success, but there is also “Masters perfect.”

Doesn’t that describe what we all love about this tournament? That even the idea of “perfect” is different here?

IBM has made sure that we are ready for a “Masters perfect” experience. Bring it all on.
