Ian Wright reveals major fear over Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes

Ian Wright is worried that Arsenal look nervous at the end of games as they close in on the Premier League title.

The Gunners edged over the line to be rivals Chelsea 2-1 in a close game at the Emirates.

The result meant Arsenal increased their gap to five points ahead of Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola‘s side still having a game in hand.

Despite the Blues only having 10 men, after Pedro Neto received a second yellow card, they still caused the Gunners problems and had the ball in the back of the net.

However, it was a repreive for the league leaders as it was ruled out offside.

Wright, who has experience of winning the title with Arsenal in 1997/98, spoke to Premier League Productions after the game about his main concern for his old side.

He said: “Chelsea once they went down to 10 men they started to play, it was worrying.

“Arsenal showing those nerves, those jittery nerves at the latter stages of games, they need to take the opportunities earlier on so they can relax at this stage.

“They have to just win now especially the home games. It’s not going to be something that instills you with loads of confidence but it’s a win.

“We’re seeing in the second half of games that you can get at Arsenal.

“Chelsea had 10 men there and it would be nice to find out what’s happening to Arsenal in the second half.

“It comes down to ‘you get the job done’ and I’m happy the job is done but I’m going to be nervous for the next game because I’m seeing that again in the second half.”

The north London side have an influx of fixtures before the end of the season as they are still in contention for every trophy available.

Coming up in the FA Cup, they face Mansfield Town alongside Bayer Leverkusen in the Last-16 of the Champions League.

Additionally, they still have to face title rivals Man City at the Emirates which could ultimately decide who will win the league.

The Gunners recently lost points to bottom of the table Wolves after conceding an equaliser late into injury time.

Arsenal vs Chelsea drama

Against Chelsea, Arsenal opened the scoring with a corner headed from defender William Saliba.

But the Blues hit back during injury time in the first half through an own goal by Piero Hincapie.

The winning goal for Arteta’s side came from another corner with Jurrien Timber’ s header in the 66 minute.

With the Blues chasing the game down with also a man down, it looked unlikely Liam Roseiner’s side could come back.

Liam Delap had a late strike yet it was ruled offside and verified by VAR.

Wright thought his side were lucky and was confused why VAR did not award Chelsea a penalty in the first half.

He said: “[Rice’s] arm has come up, I’m baffled at what they’re looking for.

“Declan [Rice] is actually holding him, his arm’s up there and then it moves up, when I saw that I thought they’re going to give a pen.

“You just don’t know what they’re going to do up there. You look at the penalty that Man United got today and I’m thinking that’s definitely a penalty.”
