Hurricanes forward Taylor Hall reveals biggest culture shock after Blackhawks trade
Taylor Hall is playing in the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in his NHL career. The former first-overall selection in the NHL Draft is in his second season and first full campaign with the Hurricanes, after being traded from the Chicago Blackhawks. Hall has noted that his time in Carolina has been special, but it has been different than other places he has played.
On Monday, Hall spoke to the media about the move from the Blackhawks to the Hurricanes and the culture shock he had to adjust to, according to Pat Welter of WRAL.
“We’re a very fit team. When I got here from Chicago last year, I wasn’t in skating shape enough to play the way I wanted to here,” Hall told the media. “It took me a couple of weeks. Just, there’s a lot of skating, and the way that we play. Now, it seems like second nature, but it doesn’t hurt that your coach is in shape like that. That’s just the kind of guy he is. He’s a role model for us.”
Hall noted that Brind’Amour is still in great shape. He has maintained his workout routine from his playing days, often hitting the weight room before other players arrive. Even into his 50’s, he looks like the coach could still hit the ice for a few shifts. This has earned him the nickname “Rod the Bod.”
Brind’Amour has lifted the Stanley Cup once in his career, playing for the Hurricanes in 2006. He scored two goals in Game 1 of the series, including the game-winner with just seconds left in the third period. Now, Hall looks to win his first Cup, with Game 1 between the Hurricanes and the Vegas Golden Knights set for Tuesday night.
