How Mark Cuban truly feels about Mavericks leaving the AAC

Recently, it was announced that the Dallas Mavericks would be departing the American Airlines Center for a new venue in Valley View in the distant future. Of course, the Mavericks will still be playing their home games at the iconic arena for the time being, but it was still a somber moment for fans who had grown used to the friendly confines of the AAC.

Now, former Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has shared his thoughts on the decision.

“That would be great. It’s in Dallas, first of all. That’s first and foremost. People know Valley View and know how to get there. 635 is right there. They’ll have to do some work to improve the access, which they will. It’ll be great for the community there,” said Cuban, per Haymaker on X, formerly Twitter.

Cuban was the longtime owner of the Mavericks before selling to the Dumont family, not long after which the team infamously opted to trade Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. However, Dallas then lucked into another building block in Cooper Flagg, who recently won the Rookie of the Year award for his efforts on the 2025-26 season.

The Dumont family hasn’t exactly been popular with the Mavericks fanbase, but with this latest decision, they do stave off any concerns that some had about them trying to potentially relocate the team out of Dallas altogether, which was a talking point in the immediate aftermath of the Doncic trade.

While Cuban is no longer the governing force of the Mavericks, he remains a central figure within the organization and frequently appears at games, and figures to continue to do so in the new arena.

Still, it will be quite some time before the relocation takes place.
