How Cade Cunningham, Duncan Robinson led Pistons past Cavs in Game 1

Game 1 between the Detroit Pistons and the Cleveland Cavaliers did not disappoint. Both teams were coming off a brutal seven-game series where they were taken to their absolute limits. Everyone expected both teams to come out swinging and let off some steam from their previous series.

Indeed, we got exactly that. The Pistons started off strong against the Cavaliers, nursing a lead as large as 18 points at one point. While Cleveland fought back into the game, Detroit fended off the attempted comeback thanks to some timely passes from Cade Cunningham to Jalen Duren late in the game. The result was a 111-101 win to take Game 1 of the series and protect their home court.

Cunningham was once again the catalyst for the Pistons, finishing the game with 23 points, seven assists, and three rebounds. The star guard, unfortunately, struggled shooting from the field, making just six of his 19 shot attempts. Veteran Tobias Harris and sweet-shooting forward Duncan Robinson were second and third in scoring with 20 and 19 points, respectively. Robinson, in particular, was excellent from beyond the arc, making five of his eight three-point attempts. Duren recorded a double-double with 11 points, 12 boards, four assists, and two blocks.

On the other end, Donovan Mitchell and James Harden paced the Cavaliers with 23 and 22 points, respectively. Harden, in particular, was hounded by the Pistons all game long. He finished the game shooting 40% from the field and 14.3% from deep. Max Strus added 19 points off the bench on 53.8% shooting from the field. The Cavs committed 19 turnovers to the Pistons’ 11.

Game 2 will be on Thursday in Little Caesars Arena once again.
