Hawks rumors: Atlanta could use Buddy Hield’s salary in offseason trade

After acquiring Aaron Wiggins from the Oklahoma City Thunder and getting Kingston Flemings and Zuby Eijofor in the NBA Draft, the Atlanta Hawks are not yet done trying to upgrade the roster in the offseason.

Many are wondering what the Hawks will do with Jonathan Kuminga after it was revealed that the team is looking to move him. Aside from Kuminga, another player to monitor is Buddy Hield, as he could be traded in the coming days.

On Sunday, it was reported that Atlanta will fully guarantee the $9.66 million salary of Hield.

Following the development, NBA insider Jake Fischer shared that the Hawks could use the 33-year-old Hield to sweeten a trade.

Hield and the Hawks recently agreed to push back the deadline for guaranteeing the rest of his deal, giving the squad more flexibility in the offseason. Only $3 million was initially guaranteed for the veteran sharpshooter.

Hield, along with Jonathan Kuminga, was acquired by Atlanta in February in a trade with the Golden State Warriors. In seven games with the Hawks, the former Oklahoma hotshot averaged 5.1 points in 7.3 minutes off the bench.

Atlanta could use more help in the frontcourt. Trading for Jalen Duren, Domantas Sabonis, Trey Murphy III, Aaron Gordon, or Yves Missi might be optimal.

The Hawks are looking to build on the momentum from their surprising run to the playoffs this season, led by their young core of Jalen Johnson, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Dyson Daniels, and Onyeka Okongwu.
