Growing doubts around Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro as Heat’s future duo

The future of Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro’s time with the Miami Heat might be in question. It is one that Kendrick Perkins wants Pat Riley to answer as soon as this summer in the offseason.

The Heat’s 2025-26 campaign came to end after losing to the Charlotte Hornets in the play-in tournament. As the 10th seed, Miami needed to win to stay alive and fight for the eighth seed in the East bracket. However, the loss ended their chances of making their seventh consecutive playoff appearance.

Perkins provided his thoughts on what the Heat should do this summer during an April 16 episode of the Road Trippin podcast. It is there where the former player and current analyst called out Riley and demanded that he understand the current direction of the franchise isn’t in a good spot.

“Pat Riley, I want to catch a big fish, I want to catch a whale. Every f—ing offseason, every trade deadline. But you keep bringing in sea bass. Real talk, and I hate to make this transition, but I gotta say it, Miami Heat have been in the play-in tournament for four consecutive years. And they just don’t make real powerful moves. He didn’t want to go get Dame. They tried for KD, but KD didn’t want to go there. You get rid of Jimmy. It’s a lot of question marks,” Perkins said at the 1:10:16 mark.

“I’m starting to wonder is he past his time when it comes to being the guy that oversees this organization? At some point you’ve got to really have an honest f—ing conversation and ask yourself, is Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro, are those the two guys that’s going to get me to where I’m trying to go? And the answer is no.”

What lies ahead for Bam Adebayo, Heat

There is no doubt that the Heat will be busy with tough decisions to make about their roster. With star players to pursue this offseason and in the future, they have to make a choice about Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro as soon as they can.

Miami ended this season with a 43-39 record, good for 10th in the Easter Conference standings. They stood above the Milwaukee Bucks and the Chicago Bulls but remained under the Charlotte Hornets and the Orlando Magic.

The Heat have plenty of time to figure out their moves in the offseason. It will involve the draft and free agency but making a case for championship contention will require them to take some risks. Those might involve Adebayo and Herro’s standing with the franchise.
