Grizzlies’ Ja Morant shares inspiring message on social media amid trade rumors

The 2026 NBA Draft is just days away, and rumors are that the Memphis Grizzlies may trade Ja Morant at some point soon. With the rumblings seemingly getting louder with each passing day, the seven-year veteran shared an inspirational, but cryptic message on social media.

Morant posted an eight-word post on X, formerly known as Twitter, claiming that everybody should be chasing their dreams. Whether or not that pertains to the rumor mill is not certain.

“If you got dreams, you better chase ’em,” said Morant.

The 26-year-old guard has had a rocky relationship with the Grizzlies the past few seasons. Everything went haywire in the 2023-24 campaign when Morant was suspended 25 games for an off-court incident described as conduct detrimental to the league. After playing nine games after the suspension, the former Rookie of the Year suffered a shoulder injury that effectively ended his season.

He bounced back in 2024-25 a little bit, starting in 50 games for the Grizzlies, helping lead the club to a playoff appearance that season. But the 2025-26 campaign was a different story once again. Ja Morant was limited to just 20 games after dealing with lingering injury issues before missing the rest of the year with a left elbow UCL sprain.

The two-time All-Star was also vocal about his displeasure with first-year head coach Tuomas Iisalo. It could be one of the main reasons why Ja Morant is rumored to be on the trade block. However, Memphis has made several moves already, making big changes to the roster, having dealt Jaren Jackson Jr. to the Utah Jazz and Desmond Bane to the Orlando Magic.

While last season was one of the worst in Morant’s career in terms of per-game production, his career numbers are still fantastic. His off-court issues may limit which organizations are interested in trading for him, but if Ja Morant can get back to the top of his game, then he would be a steal for any franchise aiming to acquire the talented point guard.

In 327 career games (325 starts), Morant is averaging 22.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 7.4 assists, and 1.0 steals per contest. He’s recording those numbers while shooting 46.6% from the field and 31.1% from beyond the three-point line.
