Grizzlies’ Cameron Boozer nearly at loss for words after No. 3 pick selection
With the third overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, the Memphis Grizzlies found a new franchise cornerstone in forward Cameron Boozer. It’s a moment he has been preparing for his whole life.
Flanked by his family at the draft, Boozer was quick to shout them out when discussing the moment. Furthermore, the now Grizzlies rookie is still letting it sink in that he is officially an NBA player, via ESPN.
“I don’t even know how to describe it honestly, man,” Boozer said. “It’s my moment, but it’s our moment as a family.”

Boozer spent one season at Duke, appearing in 38 games. He averaged 22.5 points, an ACC-leading 10.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. Booker was awarded a number of accolades for his accomplishments, including the Wooden Award, ACC Player of the Year and Consensus First-Team All-American.
Now in Memphis, Boozer will help re-shape the Grizzlies’ identity. The franchise has been marred in rumors surrounding a potential Ja Morant trade. Whether or not he is dealt, Boozer will now offer the franchise a player to build around.
While the Grizzlies held the third overall pick, they have been to the playoffs in four of the last six seasons. However, they haven’t advanced by the first round since the 2021-2022 season. With the roster undergoing so much change as is, it was clear Memphis was in need of a new spark.
Booker is now here to provide it. He is eager to join the Grizzlies and forge his own path. It may just take some time before he realizes his NBA dreams have come true.
