Golden Knights’ Stanley Cup Final deficit is nothing Brayden McNabb hasn’t seen before

The Vegas Golden Knights are on the brink of disaster in the 2026 Stanley Cup Final. Brayden McNabb and his teammates have lost Game 5 of the Final against Andrei Svechnikov and the Carolina Hurricanes. As a result, Carolina can win the Cup on Sunday night in Game 6.

The Golden Knights have certainly had some ups and downs this season. It may be easy to forget, considering how good Vegas has played as of late. But there was time when them making the playoffs was in doubt. The Golden Knights will channel that adversity heading into Game 6.

“We’ve done it the hard way all season, and we’ll have to do it one more time,” McNabb said via The Athletic’s Jesse Granger.

Pavel Dorofeyev scored the first goal of this game for the Golden Knights. However, Vegas eventually saw the dam break. Jordan Staal tied Game 5 in the first period with his fifth goal of the series. And in the second period, Carolina added another two goals.

The third period saw Vegas push to add a goal to its ledger. But the Hurricanes struck first, thanks to Andrei Svechnikov’s second of the game on the power play. Dorofeyev scored again to cut the lead to two, but it was too little, too late.

McNabb and his teammates have been around the block before. They know what’s at stake, and they will likely put their best foot forward in Game 6. Vegas has a couple of days to collect itself, though, as the Golden Knights will host the Hurricanes on Sunday night.
