Golden Knights goaltender Carter Hart continues perfect trend after clutch Game 5 vs. Ducks
The Vegas Golden Knights took an overtime victory over the Anaheim Ducks in Game 5 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs series. Pavel Dorofeyev sent the Golden Knights fans home happy with the overtime winner, as Vegas now holds a 3-2 series lead.
Carter Hart stopped 34 of 36 shots in the victory, and also extended a perfect trend, according to Jesse Granger of The Athletic.
“Carter Hart is a perfect 5-0 in sudden-death playoff overtime in his NHL career,” Granger posted on X, formerly Twitter, prior to the start of overtime.
Dorofeyev’s goal made Hart a perfect 6-0 in overtime in his NHL career. He did not need to do much in overtime to make sure the Golden Knights got the win. Hart allowed a goal to Olen Zellweger with just over three minutes left in the game, but stopped a tip-in attempt by Jeffer Viel on his next attempt. That would be the last save of the game for Hart. The Ducks did not hit the net in overtime, having one shot blocked and another attempt miss wide.
His first three overtime wins came in the 2020 playoffs when Hart was a member of the Philadelphia Flyers. All three games in the series with the New York Islanders, with Hart getting overtime wins in Games 3, 5, and 6. The Game 6 win was in double overtime. Those were the only three wins of the series for the Flyers as they fell in seven games to the Islanders.
This year, he had back-to-back overtime wins as well, taking victories in Games 4 and 5 of their first-round series with the Utah Mammoth. The Game 5 win was also a double-overtime affair.
With the Golden Knights’ victory in Game 5, they can now close out the series in Game 6. That game is scheduled for Thursday back in Anaheim.
