The Vegas Golden Knights took Game 1 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs series with the Anaheim Ducks. It was a tight game throughout, but Ivan Barbashev scored the game-winning goal for the Golden Knights.

After the game, Barbashev spoke about the game-clinching goal, per Paul Delos Santo of NHL.com.

“I just tried to put the puck deep and I saw Jack on the far side going through,” Barbashev said. “I thought for a second he beat him, and that’s why they waved it off. Jack just put a little pressure on him. They turned it over, and (Dorofeyev) made a great play.”

The goal from Barbashev was slightly controversial. The puck went deep into the Ducks defensive zone, on what looked like was going to be an icing call. The officials determined that Jack Eichel was ahead of Jackson LaCombe and waived off the icing call. Pavel Dorofevey was able to get the loose puck on the board and move the biscuit across the crease, finding Barbashev, who buried it. Still, it seems the Golden Knights do not seem to be fully satisfied with the win.

“It’s Game 1. It is (about) which team finds its game the quickest that has the advantage,” Golden Knights coach John Tortorella said. “We’re fortunate. Fortunate that we found a way to win. They played well. Some of it had to do with them. They played well, but we have some things to work on.”

Mitch Marner, who assisted on the first goal of the game to Brett Howden, and then had an empty-netter to seal the game with six seconds left, also knows there is room for improvement.

“I don’t think anyone in that locker room is satisfied with that win,” Marner said. “We know we can play a lot better. I don’t think we got to our game at all. We gave them some good looks, and Carter made some massive saves.”

The Golden Knights will look to take a 2-0 series lead on Wednesday night with puck drop at 9:30 p.m. ET.
