Glorious Goodwood Festival Day 3 Thursday (Thursday 30th July 2026)

The quality of the action turns up a notch on Thursday with the Group 1 Nassau Stakes taking centre stage for the fillies and mares. Diamond Necklace puts her unbeaten record on the line in the feature as she bids to make it a perfect six from six.

Plenty of exciting horses on show including impressive Ascot winner Flann Sunna in the Richmond. The Gordon Stakes also looks mouthwatering with Royal Ascot winner Enceladus looking to take the step into Group company in his stride for Joseph O’Brien. Another superb days racing on the Sussex Downs and hopefully I can keep the winners flowing.

Goodwood 1.50 Coral Kincsem Heritage Handicap (Class 2) (3YO only) 1m2f

An eight-race card kicks off with a fiercely competitive handicap over a mile and a quarter and while any of about six or seven could win this I am quite keen on CIARRAI ABU backing up that Ascot performance.

He ran on strongly to nail Crest Of Fire and has won two of his last three now. He shapes as though he’d be better suited by further and gets that here. He is 6lb higher but looks progressive and is worth keeping on side.

Tons of dangers and Harmonics probably heads them for John and Thady Gosden. This 3yo was denied the hat-trick last time but that did come at Royal Ascot and he failed to give his running for whatever reason. He could show up a lot better here and looks the danger. Dark Whisper was well backed to run down Lean D’aislingean and is another one I can see going particularly well.

Goodwood 2.25 Markel Richmond Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1) (2YO only) 6f

After winning impressively on debut at Windsor FLANN SUNNA improved again to absolutely bolt up at Ascot last time.

He is clearly a horse progressing fast and while he needs to prove he can handle this undulating course he clearly has plenty of gears and that tactical speed should get him out of trouble if needed. The yard won this back in 2023 with Vandeek and he could be just as exciting if he makes it 3-3 here.

Cut A Dash has plenty of size and scope and impressed winning on debut before finishing fourth in the Coventry Stakes. He definitely has more to come and could emerge as the danger. Night In Vegas won his first two starts before going down just over a length in the Coventry and is another one likely to get seriously competitive in a good renewal – the form of this should work out particularly well in time.

Goodwood 3.00 Maison Perrier Gordon Stakes (Group 3) (class 1) (3YO only) 1m4f

Obviously Bay Of Brilliance has been highly tried this season so it would be no surprise to see him bounce back and run a big race here.

I do prefer Royal Ascot winner ENCELADUS though. This Sea The Stars colt showed a good attitude to fend off Al Azd and the latter has franked the form winning by a wide margin at Ascot since. He is unexposed over a mile and a half and could easily improve again and land the hat-trick.

Of the rest Geryon had been running well in defeat and deserved to win at Leopardstown last time. If he appreciates the step up to a mile and a half here he could run well. Shaihaan has plenty of ability but didn’t seem to enjoy the step up to this trip at the Curragh last month so a bit to prove at present.

Goodwood 3.35 Qatar Nassau Stakes (Fillies’ And Mares’ Group 1) (Class 1) (3YO plus) 1m2f

It is a shame we only have five heading to post for the Nassau this year but it was a small field 12 months ago as well and has attracted quality over quantity.

DIAMOND NECKLACE is unbeaten and looks to have a great chance of extending the winning run. The yard took it last year with Whirl who took full advantage of a flag start and this filly looks even better. She showed a great attitude to win in France and is unexposed over a mile and a quarter. She is already a three-time Group 1 winner and she ticks plenty of boxes again.

I don’t think Friendly Soul was as unlucky as people made out behind Blue Bolt in the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot but that is decent form and she should run well here. See The Fire was readily put in her place behind Ombudsman and while this is easier she still looks up against it. I’m tempted to play Botagoz without the favourite at around 6/1 as she impressed edging out Diamond Rain at Newcastle and brings untapped potential to the table.

Goodwood 4.10 Buccellati Handicap (Class 3) (3YO only) 5f

This is ridiculously competitive and easily the hardest race of the day to try and work out. I have tentatively sided with NOBLE VOW who leaves the impression there is more to come.

He won at Bath and then followed up at Haydock beating another nice horse in Bintaryana. I know he blew out at Thirsk but if you put a line through that he could still be well handicapped off this mark. The yard are going well and at a double-figure price I think he is worth chancing.

Old Is Gold looked like he needed the run back from 247 days off the track at Sandown. He has been freshened up again and could have more to offer here. Naana’s Shadow is a good looking filly and she impressed beating Schrodinger’s Cat on penultimate start. If she gets back to that form she could have a big say in the outcome here as I can see this track suiting.

Goodwood 4.45 Whispering Angel Nursery (Class 2) (2YO only) 7f

I was hoping Hannon would turn SHADOW KING out quickly for this. Obviously this is no easy task but I thought he impressed winning with plenty up his sleeve at Doncaster.

If handling this quick turnaround he could take a lot of beating. I don’t think he had a hard race the last day so he should be fresh enough. He is unexposed now tackling 7f and I can see him running a huge race for an in-form yard.

The Bookkeeper justified strong support to win at Haydock and then ran well behind Hickory Lad at Epsom. Back up a furlong here is perfect and he will run a big race – might be worth a saver with Ryan Moore booked. The Ginger Kid was back to form when second at Chester and with this track likely to suit he could run well too.

🏇 Bet on SHADOW KING To Win at 7/2 with WilliamHill 🏇

Goodwood 5.20 Tatler British EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (GBB Race) (Class 2) (2YO only) 7f

So Lovely is the obvious one but at nearly even money she represents zero value. I’m going to chance ELEVATING taking another step forward.

She was keen enough on debut at York but stayed on strongly in the closing stages and was beaten less than two lengths into second. I can see this extra furlong suiting as long as she settles better and she looks value as can be backed each way against the favourite.

Debutant Beguiled cost €72,000 and is likely to have been targeted at this. She will get further though and might find this on the sharp side for now. Siena Storm looks the part on paper having cost €600,000 and the yard certainly know how to get them ready first time out so worth checking the market on her nearer the off time.

🏇 Bet on ELEVATING Each Way at 11/2 with bet365 🏇

Goodwood 5.55 HKJC World Pool Handicap (Class 3) (3YO only) 1m

Another tricky handicap to close out but I can see LAW COURT running a big race. He looked good winning at Sandown on penultimate start and then was given a lot of ground to make up last time. This drop back to a mile with a good gallop on will suit and I’m confident he has more to come yet. This is obviously open but he has a lively chance and 7/1 makes plenty of appeal.

Go Rimbaud has been progressive winning two of his last three and if improving again could go well here. Electric Dreams is unexposed and showed a good attitude to prevail at Leicester so now handicapping is another one that figured quite highly on my shortlist.

My top tip for Day 3 of Glorious Goodwood

There are some exciting horses on Day 3 of Glorious Goodwood and I’m backing two that are unbeaten in FLANN SUNNA in the Richmond and DIAMOND NECKLACE in the Nassau. Odds of around 4/1 about the double look worth snapping up!

🏇 Bet a Win Double on FLANN SUNNA and DIAMOND NECKLACE at 4/1 with bet365 🏇
