Gable Steveson teases sharing card with Conor McGregor in first words since joining UFC

Gable Steveson has promised the ‘biggest debut on earth’ ahead of his first UFC fight.

The UFC announced during UFC 327 this past weekend that highly touted prospect and Olympic gold medallist Steveson had signed with the promotion.

Steveson, who trains under the guidance of Jon Jones, is set to make his debut at UFC 329 during the promotion’s international fight week on July 11.

Conor McGregor is also expected to make his return to fighting at the same time as Steveson alluded to the Irishman’s comeback in his first comments since joining the UFC.

Steveson teases ‘crazy headliner’ at UFC 329

“I feel amazing,” Steveson told the UFC moments after his signing was announced.

“This is going to be the biggest debut on earth and I’m ready.

“The butterflies, the jitters, it’s all part of the game and I’m ready to take that big step to the UFC and do what I need to do.

“International Fight Week is going to be crazy.

“Maybe a crazy headliner that might come back that you guys might know.”

Steveson is the first confirmed fighter to feature on the UFC 329 card, which goes down at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The 25-year-old from Portage, Indiana, is undefeated in his three professional MMA fights, having continued his undefeated streak with another first-round finish two months ago.

He is likely to make his debut at UFC 329 against a ranked heavyweight such as Mick Parkin, Marcin Tybura or Serghei Spivac.

McGregor, who has been teasing his MMA comeback for well over a year now, is the frontrunner to headline the event following his snub from the UFC’s historic White House bill.

Although nothing has been confirmed, former UFC featherweight and BMF champion Max Holloway is likely to welcome McGregor back to the promotion.

UFC 329 shaping up to be card of the year

McGregor’s involvement at UFC 329 is important for Dana White‘s promotion to continue the momentum from his show on the South Lawn of the White House.

The card could also be strengthened further with the addition of Paddy Pimblett, who has already revealed he would like to make his return during international fight week.

UFC CEO White even said he liked the idea of Pimblett featuring when asked by talkSPORT.com in March.

“Yeah [that sounds good to me],” White said.

“Whenever he wants to fight, we’d love to have him back.”

Pimblett lost an interim lightweight title bout last time out in January to Justin Gaethje, who is now set to headline UFC Freedom 250 in a unification bout with Ilia Topuria.
