Liam Rosenior vented his anger at some of Arsenal players who ventured into Chelsea’s half before their Carabao Cup semi-final clash.

Prior to kick-off, Rosenior oversaw his side’s warm-up ahead of his biggest match as Chelsea boss.

Rosenior was annoyed by some Arsenal players who conducted their warm up inside the Chelsea half

Needing to overturn a 3-2 first-leg deficit, Rosenior’s men required a quick response at the Emirates Stadium to ensure Chelsea had the best possible opportunity to book their place in next month’s final.

Rosenior irritated

Rosenior, who normally displays a calm demeanour, was left annoyed when members of Arteta’s side strolled into the Chelsea half to warm up.

Footage of the incident showed the Chelsea boss shouting a four-word barb in the direction of the Gunners’ staff while demanding they stay on their side of the pitch.

The tirade was picked up by the Sky Sports cameras who panned in on the former Hull and Strasbourg head coach shouting ‘stay in your f****** half’.

Although heavily fired up, Rosenior was unable to inspire his side to a famous victory at the Emirates as Arsenal ran out 1-0 winners on the night.

The Gunners sealed their spot in the final thanks to Kai Havertz’s last-gasp winner.

It means Arsenal will take on either Manchester City or Newcastle in the Wembley final on March 22.

The victory means the Gunners will contest their first domestic cup final since the 2020 FA Cup final.

Criticism of Chelsea’s approach

But for Chelsea it was a case of what might have been, however, Rosenior’s passive set-up despite starting the game 3-2 down left Sky Sport pundit Paul Merson infuriated.

“I’m flabbergasted,” Merson said. “I can’t believe what I’ve just watched. Chelsea aren’t a bottom-five team. They have World Cup winners.

“[Wesley] Fofana is crying. He should be crying because they never had a go. They’ve gone out with a whimper in a semi-final. It hasn’t worked.

“Go out in a blaze of glory, don’t go out like that. They played in second gear. This is the semi-final of a cup.”

Pressed on Merson’s gripes, Rosenior believes it is easy for pundits to say his team should have played more on the front foot.

“I’ve been a pundit. It’s easy. It’s easy in hindsight,” Rosenior said at full time.

“So, if I go and attack the game, press really high and we concede two goals early, everyone says: ‘What’s he doing?’ That’s the reality of my job.

“The reality of my job is if you lose games, you’ll be criticised. If you win, you’re a genius. It’s normally somewhere in between, I think.”
