Freddie Freeman dazzles Dodgers fans with Derek Jeter leaping toss to Mookie Betts

Freddie Freeman owns one personal milestone already with his 2,500th MLB hit. But now he executed one of the more dazzling plays of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 2026 season. This one involving Mookie Betts becoming the recipient of this leaping toss against the San Diego Padres.

Freeman first stretched his left arm out to start the tag out sequence. Then he touched first base before executing his jump pass to Betts. LA pulled off the double play following Freeman’s throw.

Freeman and the defending World Series champion Dodgers have been tested plenty this season. It comes within the territory of standing at the top of the league the last two seasons. LA even barely escaped a feisty Minnesota Twins team 2-1 during the week of June 22 before facing its National League West rival.

Freeman refused to panic, though, about the Dodgers’ up-and-down offensive struggles.

“Good teams win close ball games. We’ll get it going. It’s the middle of the year, we’ll be fine,” Freeman boldly told Spectrum SportsNet after taking that narrow win over the Twins.

Now Freeman, Betts and the Dodgers are aiming to shake off their disastrous 7-1 loss to San Diego at Petco Park. Freeman blasted two hits in the loss on Friday, but became the only one to smack multiple hits.

Freeman didn’t just ignite a stout early defensive showing, though. His Dodgers jumped all over the Padres with a 6-1 lead, including scoring five runs during the sixth inning. The first baseman Freeman ripped two hits off a single and double, plus scored on a fielding error near second base.
