Francis Mauigoa getting back injury re-examined before NFL Draft
While the 2026 NFL Draft is right around the corner, it sounds like one of the top offensive tackle prospects, Francis Mauigoa, has an update regarding his back injury. The former Miami Hurricane is having his back re-examined for an injury he was dealing with late in the 2025-26 season.
Reports indicate that, although Mauigoa is not experiencing any symptoms right now, some NFL teams want more information about his back injury, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. The 20-year-old left tackle is having the re-examination conducted in Indianapolis, Indiana.
“Miami OT Francis Mauigoa, potentially the top tackle in the Draft, has decided to be at Combine Rechecks on Friday for additional imaging on a minor back issue that caused him some discomfort late in the season, sources say,” reported Rapoport.
“Mauigoa started 42 straight games in college, including all 16 this season, and, upon full professional consultation, is not considered a candidate for immediate surgery,” continued Rapoport. “He did perform fully at his Pro Day and currently is symptom-free. But some teams have asked for additional testing on a disc issue, and with nothing to hide, Mauigoa heads to Indy.”
Some injury situations in the past have forced players to fall in the NFL Draft. However, Rapoport believes that will not be the case for Francisc Mauigoa. Despite that belief, the famous NFL Insider does admit multiple teams are monitoring the re-examination results closely.
“The initial belief is that this will not cause Francis Mauigoa to fall,” claimed Rapoport. “Of course, teams will continue to monitor it until Draft night.”
Mauigoa played four years at the college level. Two with the Washington State Cougars and two with the Miami Hurricanes. He ended his collegiate career playing and starting in 51 total games, making him incredibly experienced despite his young age. Francis Mauigoa is considered one of, if not the top, offensive lineman prospect in the 2026 NFL Draft.
