Former Bucks guard Brandon Jennings sums up Giannis’ legacy after wild trade

Former Milwaukee Bucks guard Brandon Jennings shared a positive message after Giannis Antetokounmpo’s trade to the Miami Heat late on Monday night.

Jennings, who played for Milwaukee from 2009-13 and again in 2018, framed Antetokounmpo’s departure around gratitude, legacy, and the 2021 NBA championship run he delivered to the city.

The former Bucks veteran took to X, formerly Twitter, praising Antetokounmpo’s time in Milwaukee while also expressing support for the franchise’s next chapter.

“Happy For Giannis.

Happy For the Bucks.

The Run Was Nothing But Amazing!!!! Everybody won in this situation. Bucks & the City of Milwaukee got what they wanted and Giannis is the greatest Bucks Player Ever!!!!

Bucks in 6”

Jennings’ reaction came after the reported blockbuster deal sending Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis to the Heat. Milwaukee received Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, and a major draft-asset package that included the No. 13 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft in return.

The post from the ex-NBA guard was significant because of his history with the franchise. He became one of the organization’s most recognizable players during his first stint with the Bucks and famously helped popularize the “Bucks in 6” phrase during the 2013 playoffs.

The phrase later became a defining rallying cry for the fan base, especially when the Bucks won the 2021 NBA Finals in six games behind Antetokounmpo. Jennings closing his message with “Bucks in 6” gave the reaction a symbolic tie to the franchise’s championship era.

Antetokounmpo leaves the city of Milwaukee with a resume that includes two MVP awards and the 2021 NBA championship. The message from the nine-year NBA veteran positioned the trade as a respectful ending to the Greek Freak’s historic run with the Bucks.
