Flyers’ Owen Tippett out for Game 2 vs. Hurricanes, but return is near

The Philadelphia Flyers are scheduled to take on the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 2 on Monday after suffering a 3-0 Game 1 loss to begin the series. Unfortunately, Philly will have to play the second game of the series without right wing Owen Tippett. Luckily, it’s not entirely bad news.

Reports indicate that Tippett, who is 27 years old, is officially ruled out with an undisclosed lower-body injury, according to Charlie O’Connor of PHLY Sports. However, head coach Rick Tocchet claimed that Tippett could return by Game 3.

“Rick Tocchet confirms Owen Tippett is out again in Game 2,” reported O’Connor. “Says he’s a ‘possibility’ for Game 3. Will be a game-time decision.”

The seven-year veteran is said to have been struggling with the injury since taking a hard hit in the Flyers’ 3-2 loss to the Hurricanes (interestingly enough) just before the start of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. He played through the pain in the first round series against the Pittsburgh Penguins, but has since needed time away from the ice.

Getting Owen Tippett back in the lineup is crucial for the Flyers. He played 81 games in the regular season, recording 51 points (28 goals, 23 assists) on the campaign, which is a career high for him. Overall, it was one of Tippett’s most productive regular seasons of his career.

On Monday, the Flyers will have to rely on Travis Konecny, Porter Martone, Matvei Michkov, and Garnet Hathaway in the forward/right wing position against the Hurricanes. Game 2 is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. EST and will take place in Carolina, with the Hurricanes owning home ice advantage in this series.
