Flyers’ Cam York jokes about possible fallout from stick throw celly

The Philadelphia Flyers needed overtime to knock off the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 6 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs series. The Flyers will be moving on in the playoffs as Cam York hit the overtime winner.

With 2:30 left in the first overtime, York put a shot on net from high in the offensive zone. The puck hit the post and then found the back of the net.

York, who scored just four goals all season long and had not scored since January 21, celebrated immediately after clinching the series. The celebration saw York throw his stick into the stands before celebrating with his teammates. After the game, York spoke about his celebration and his stick throw, per Tyler Huehl of Daily Faceoff.

“I hope everyone is okay in the stands,” York said. “Definitely don’t want a lawsuit. Just, honestly, blacked out. I didn’t know what to do. I was so excited. Just so happy for my teammates and obviously the fans.”

One fan did post a picture with a stick and the celebration behind him, seemingly showing he was the one who caught the stick, and noted in the caption that he was good.

York, who was the first-round selection of the Flyers in 2019, has not been a massive offensive threat in his NHL career. He has just 23 career goals since breaking into the NHL in 2020-21. This is also the first playoff goal of his career. It was also just the fourth game-winning goal of his career, and the first one to come in overtime.

Now, the Flyers will move on to the second round of the playoffs. They will face the Carolina Hurricanes, who swept the Ottawa Senators in the first round of the playoffs, with the schedule for the series to be released at a later date.
