Florida State lands 3-star WR over Alabama, Georgia
On Friday, three-star wide receiver Majay Thompson from Shelby, North Carolina, committed to Florida State, choosing the Seminoles over Alabama, Georgia, and Wake Forest in the 2027 recruiting class. Thompson announced his commitment during a ceremony at his high school, becoming part of Florida State’s #Tribe27 class.
Thompson, standing at 5-foot-11 and weighing 180 pounds, is ranked as the No. 986 overall player nationally, the No. 136 wide receiver, and the No. 32 prospect in North Carolina according to Rivals industry rankings. The 247Composite rates him as a three-star prospect, the No. 79 wide receiver nationally, and the No. 21 player in North Carolina.
As a junior at Crest High School, Thompson finished with 53 receptions for 865 yards and 13 touchdowns, averaging 16.3 yards per catch. He also added a special teams score with a punt return touchdown. His sophomore season production included 46 catches for 746 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 16.2 yards per reception.
Thompson’s recruitment featured more than two dozen offers from major programs, with the Crimson Tide, Bulldogs, and Demon Deacons emerging as his final contenders. Wake Forest was considered a legitimate runner-up, while Georgia had previously been a serious threat and nearly secured his commitment earlier in the spring.
The Seminoles momentum in the recruitment shifted after Thompson’s official visit to Tallahassee on June 12. The visit, combined with what was described as one of his biggest NIL opportunities and potential playing time, helped Florida State secure his decision. Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell played a central role in the recruitment.
With Thompson’s pledge, Florida State now holds 11 commitments in the 2027 cycle, including two wide receivers, alongside four four-star recruits and seven three-star prospects.
