Fever’s Caitlin Clark wastes no time making WNBA history in season opener

Caitlin Clark is widely regarded as the face of the WNBA, so it is only fitting that she makes history in the Indiana Fever’s season-opening showdown with the Dallas Wings. The 2024 All-WNBA First-Team selection became the fastest point guard in league history to score 1,000 points, via ClutchPoints.

Following an injury-ravaged 2025 season, Clark is eager to pick up where she left off in her momentous rookie campaign and lead Indy to the W’s pinnacle. She struggled on Saturday afternoon, however. The 24-year-old totaled 20 points on just 7-of-18 shooting to go with seven assists, five rebounds and five turnovers in a 107-104 home loss.

She was only 2-of-9 from 3-point land, which is obviously an unsatisfying result for a player who takes great pride in her long-range shooting. Naturally, the toughest miss came on a 30-plus-foot attempt that would have tied the game in the final seconds.

While it is concerning to see Clark commit some of the same mistakes she made over the last two seasons, context is important. The two-time All-Star has not competed in an official regular season game since July 15, 2025. Considering her immense talent, she should look sharper as the campaign progresses.

Caitlin Clark knows how this goes, though. All of her performances will be analyzed meticulously and sometimes ruthlessly. Endless attention is a byproduct of being the most recognizable women’s basketball player in the world today. She will try to shake off this inconsistent showing and post a cleaner effort when the Fever visit the Los Angeles Sparks on Wednesday.
