Fever add roster depth after bringing back Kelsey Mitchell, Lexie Hull

After agreeing to terms to bring back key free agents in Kelsey Mitchell and Lexie Hull, the Indiana Fever continued to add depth to their roster with the reported signing of veteran forward Monique Billings, as per Chloe Peterson of The Indy Star.

Monique Billings’ signing isn’t the only free agency move the Fever made to help bolster their roster depth as they also were nearing an agreement to sign Tyasha Harris to strengthen their backcourt rotation. Billings can slide between either power forward or center, and it’s likely that she becomes the primary backup to Aliyah Boston.

The No. 15 overall pick in the 2018 WNBA Draft, Billings was selected by the Golden State Valkyries in last season’s expansion draft. She appeared in 26 games, including eight starts, at a little over 18 minutes per game. She averaged 7.3 points and 4.5 rebounds with splits of 47.7 percent shooting from the field, 27.8 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 67.9 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

Although the Valkyries were swept out of the opening round of the playoffs, Billings was solid in the two games, averaging 7.5 points and 2.0 rebounds while shooting 58.3 percent from the field.

The Fever are coming off a season in which they made the playoffs for the second consecutive year after missing the postseason for seven straight years. The team was hit with a bunch of season-ending injuries to key players, however, including Caitlin Clark.

Despite the losses, the Fever still put up a valiant effort in the postseason, winning a playoff series and pushing the eventual champion Las Vegas Aces to five games in the WNBA Semifinals.
