Fat Joe claims J. Cole was ‘ran out of China’ following Nanjing Monkey Kings stint

Fat Joe has some thoughts about J. Cole’s stint in the China Basketball Association.

On April 1, ESPN’s Shams Charania announced that Cole would be joining the Nanjing Monkey Kings.

“J. Cole has signed a contract to play in the Chinese Basketball Association with the Nanjing Monkey Kings, per ESPN sources. The multi-time Grammy award-winning and multi-platinum artist had committed to playing a few games for the Chinese team last year, and now follows through,” the ESPN NBA insider posted on X.

Cole, who just dropped The Fall Off in February, was set to play a few games over in China, but cited visa issues as to why he was only allowed to play one game. He played on April 11, when the Monkey Kings faced the Guangzhou Loong Lions. The Monkey Kings ended up losing 95-81, and his stats also received some backlash as he failed to make a point.  His stats read: 0 points, 0-5 FG (0-5 3PT), 1 rebound, 1 assist in about 8 minutes. The rapper then shared that he would not be returning.

“Initially I was scheduled to play in at least 3 games for the Nanjing Monkey Kings of the CBA,” wrote in his online blog Inevitable. “The work visa process took way longer than expected, so I was only able to play in one before heading back.”

Fat Joe shared how he felt about his fellow rapper’s performance claiming that he is not a “real hooper.

“By the way, J. Cole quit after one game,” Joe said on a recent episode of his Joe and Jada podcast featuring guest Sheryl Swoopes. “And the man thought he could go over there. He donuted the whole shit they said, ‘Papi.’ He donuted. No points, no nothing. No assists, no points.”

Fat Joe added that there is a lot of talent over in China and that he was “ran out” of the league.

“Everybody who’s the nicest from overseas is over there. You coming J. Cole? … They ran him out of China,” Joe claimed.

While Fat Joe was not impressed by Cole’s performance overseas, he shared some of the high points of his experience. The “Two Six” rapper was elated to find so many fans of his music as well as being able to share this moment with his family as they were able to experience China for the first time.

Cole released the Fall Off in February and is gearing up to begin his summer tour in support of the album in July.
