Fans slam wild offer to banned Spurs fan who took Victor Wembanyama selfie

The fan who ran onto the court in Game 1 of the NBA Finals to take a selfie with San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama wanted attention.

That is exactly what he got. But it did not come with stiff consequences, as the NBA banned him for life from all arenas and league events for his foolish act. He could also face criminal charges.

But since the currency in today’s world is attention, engagement, and promotion, Buffalo Wild Wings offered to treat the fan.

The publicity move, however, did not sit well with many, lamenting that the wild offer—pun intended—sends the wrong message.

“Holy L. Why would we reward this guy?” asked @Drewtamu.

“If the punishment comes with a promo, what exactly are we teaching the next guy?” echoed @MotleyGoblin.

“Yeah, let’s reward a loser interrupting Game 1 of the NBA Finals,” said @OneLegSoldMe.

“I was disgusted that the broadcast showed the replay and gave him his air time, and now we want to reward him more?” added @LearninBall.

“Why would you reward moronic criminal behavior for clout?” wrote @TheAngryMexa.

“Bad take! Read the room! Whose idea was this, and have they been fired yet?” commented @KnickWitDaKnack.

Former NBA star Blake Griffin, who endorses a rival chain, could not help but take a shot at the publicity stunt.

Wembanyama admitted that he was caught off guard by the fan.

“I’ve never been in that situation. I didn’t know how to act,” said the Defensive Player of the Year in the postgame conference.

The Spurs lost, 105-95.
