Falcons rumors: Adam Schefter mentioning a Kyle Pitts trade multiple times will raise eyebrows
One month into free agency, the Atlanta Falcons face a challenging situation with their star tight end, Kyle Pitts.
Although they recently placed the franchise tag on Pitts, CBS Sports insider Jonathan Jones suggests that trading him might be the most logical option.
The Falcons currently have limited draft capital, with only five picks in the 2026 draft, largely due to their aggressive trade-up for James Pearce Jr., who is now facing potential legal issues and a season-long suspension.
Trading Pitts, with his $15 million salary, could provide the necessary assets to address this roster crisis.
Speculation about a potential trade intensified following reports from ESPN. Insider Adam Schefter has repeatedly identified Pitts as a veteran player who could attract significant interest on the trade market.
As teams assess a 2026 draft class that is expected to be one of the deepest for tight ends in years, featuring prospects like Vanderbilt’s Eli Stowers and Ohio State’s Max Klare, the Falcons seem to be keeping their options open.
During recent owners’ meetings, Falcons general manager Ian Cunningham confirmed his willingness to engage with other teams.
“It’s my job as the general manager to do what’s best for the organization,” Cunningham told reporters.
“Kyle is a great player. We’ve seen his skill set. However, it’s also my responsibility to listen.”
While trade rumors continue to circulate, Pitts has shown his commitment to the franchise.
According to Ian Rapoport, the five-year veteran has officially signed his $15.045 million franchise tag and reported for offseason workouts last month.
This decision locks in his fully guaranteed salary while allowing both sides to negotiate a long-term extension.
Pitts is coming off a stellar 2025 season in which he earned second-team All-Pro honors after recording 88 catches for 928 yards and five touchdowns.
Whether this “gesture of goodwill” leads to a permanent stay or simply enhances his trade value remains the biggest question in Atlanta.
