Eight-time winners Chelsea are aiming to lift the trophy for the first time since 2018, while Manchester City, seven-time champions themselves, are set to make history by becoming the first side ever to appear in four successive FA Cup finals.

City arrive at Wembley as strong favourites as they look to win the competition for the first time since 2023 and cap off another impressive campaign under Pep Guardiola.

Guardiola’s side head into the weekend in excellent form, having won eight of their last nine matches across all competitions, a run which includes an emphatic 3-0 victory over Chelsea.

Having already secured the EFL Cup, the Cityzens are now chasing a domestic cup double for the second time in the club’s history and could become the first English side since Liverpool in 2022 to achieve the feat.

There is also still the possibility of a domestic treble for the reigning champions, who sit two points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal with only two league fixtures remaining.

Erling Haaland has once again been central to City’s success, scoring 37 goals in all competitions this season. The Norwegian has found the net in each of his last four Premier League appearances and struck a hat-trick in his most recent FA Cup outing, a 4-0 win over Liverpool.

Chelsea, meanwhile, head into the final enduring a difficult spell of form, with just one victory from their last six matches and only two wins in their previous 11 games in all competitions, a run that has included eight defeats.

That poor run ultimately brought an end to Liam Rosenior’s brief tenure at Stamford Bridge, with assistant coach Calum McFarlane stepping into the role on an interim basis until the end of the season.

Saturday’s showpiece will mark only McFarlane’s sixth match in charge of a senior side across two separate caretaker spells this campaign. He has recorded just one victory from his five games so far, although that success did come at Wembley in Chelsea’s FA Cup semi-final triumph over Leeds.

The west London side also have an unwanted recent record in major domestic finals, having lost each of their last six domestic cup finals since lifting the FA Cup in 2018, including three straight defeats in this competition between 2020 and 2022.

Manchester City are unbeaten in their last 13 meetings with Chelsea in all competitions, although the Blues’ last victory over Saturday’s opponents came in the most significant encounter between the clubs, when Chelsea defeated City 1-0 in Porto to win the Champions League in 2021.
