Exclusive: Lamar Odom breaks down the significance of his Kobe Bryant tattoo location

Lamar Odom placed massive significance on the location of his Kobe Bryant tattoo in a tribute to his late friend and Los Angeles Lakers icon.

In an exclusive interview with the two-time NBA champion on the following the release of his Netflix documentary, Untold: The Death and Life of Lamar Odom, he shared why he decided to place his tattoo of Kobe on his neck.

“I have a tattoo on Kobe on my neck and you know the reason why I put it on my neck, so he can stay in my ear,” Odom explained.

He added that having the Kobe tattoo is also in alignment with what he continues to practice in honor of his former teammate.

“The mama mentality is something that I practice every day and will continue to practice. [It’s] as simple as it seems. All it is is putting your best foot forward every day,” Odom continued.

Odom was vulnerable in expressing that it was something that he previously did not follow, as he struggled with substance abuse throughout his NBA career.

“For so long I wasn’t doing so and that’s why I keep that so dear and near to me,” he explained, adding that the process is not just for the benefit of himself.

“That’s how I try to just live my life from here on out just trying to be my best every day whether it’s being a father or watching basketball, critiquing it, that’s all I can really say about that,” he added. “But all I can do is just like I said before is just live my best life and take care of myself and watch the domino effect happen.”

Odom and Kobe played alongside one another for seven seasons, from 2004 to 2011 where they won back-to-back titles in 2009 and 2010.

The documentary follows the former NBA star through his off the court struggles as he navigates his substance abuse during while playing in the league. It also shows how it impacted his romantic, familial, and professional relationships.
